Got ready by 7:30 am, had continental breakfast and hopped
on to a tourist cab. Drivers name is Patu and he was very helpful until we left
Bali.
Batubulan cultural dance
We came here as part of a first day tour of Bali
and I found it very interesting but not exactly to my taste. Barong & Kris Dance is a story telling
dance, narrating the fight between good and evil. A Barong (a mythological
animal) represents good spirit and Rangda (a mythological monster) represent
evil one. Balinese people also believe that the Barong is symbol of protector.
The costumes were colourful and the play was
fast-paced despite the dramatic pauses typical of this kind of performance.
Included is an English version of the play so you can follow along with the actions. The arena has stadium type seating with steep steps and is open air.
We opted to see this cultural show without checking it out first so was surprised at the price as it is pretty pricey for Bali for an hour show with lack lustre facilities and next to a main road with lots of traffic. Avoid it when there are tours present if possible.

On our way we stopped on main road and had coconut water. Also bought some local Bali snacks to munch on. We also bought some Rambutan and Mangostin fruits which are very tasty and local Bali fruits. We never tasted them before but we liked them a lot now.
